Coral Lowry

Australian Artist / Designer / Stylist // Public Art / Conceptual / Mixed Media

Coral Lowry

Perth based Australian conceptual and public artist, Coral Lowry, is well-known for her dynamic, large-scale installations and sculptures in many prominent locations across Western Australia and recent overseas commissions in Singapore and China.

Coral Lowry develops artwork concepts by closely studying the site environment (natural and man-made) and approaches the design with sensitivity, often humour and with reference to local community and history. The express aim is to create memorable experiences of 'sense of place'.

“I'm fascinated with organic forms and creating symbiotic sculptures with fluid lines that sit well in the landscape and offer a range of surprising viewpoints”

For each project, materials are chosen with consideration to context and durability, including steel, aluminium, concrete, wood, carbon fibre and perspex. Surface treatments vary and include anodizing, sandblasting, powder and alloy coating.

Working closely with architects, town planners and engineers for private and government organisations, each commission presents an opportunity for Coral Lowry to develop an innovative, unique and individual design, appropriate in scale, material and finishing. Enriching the process and outcomes by collaborating with other design, planning and construction professionals is a valued ingredient.

More recent artworks have found a new direction, while much smaller in scale, paintings, drawings and small scale sculptural works still employ the same principles as for her public commissions.
